Esan people are traditionally agriculturalists (Farmers), and hunters. They cultivate Coconuts, and palm trees, Irvingia gabonensis (erhonhiele); Cherry (Otien) of different types; Pepper of different types, including black, bell pepper (akoh); Betel nuts, Kola (an all culturally important) nuts; black pear, avocado pear; Yams, cocoyam, cassava, maize, rice, beans, groundnut, bananas, oranges, plantains, sugar cane, tomato, potato, okra, pineapple, pawpaw, and various vegetables.
