Esan people speak Esan, a tonal Edoid language. This is a specialized Kwa-type language that belongs to the larger Niger-Congo language phylum. Currently, this language is taught in primary schools and employed for news broadcasts on radio and television networks. Dictionaries and grammar texts of the Esan language are being produced to help Esan people, interested individuals or groups to learn, understand, and appreciate the language and its dialects
